Acknowledging National Reconciliation Week 2025 at Imagine Childcare

At Imagine Childcare, Reconciliation Week is a time for us to pause, reflect, and grow together. In 2025, guided by the powerful theme “Bridging Now to Next”, our centres had opportunities to honour and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures, and contributions. Through hands-on learning, storytelling, and community connection, children engaged in thoughtful, age-appropriate experiences that sparked curiosity and built respect.

Here’s how we acknowledged and celebrated National Reconciliation Week across our long daycare centres, bringing the spirit of the week to life:

Bush Tucker with Uncle Bruce at Imagine Childcare and Kindergarten Maryborough

Children at Imagine Childcare and Kindergarten Maryborough were treated to an engaging visit from Uncle Bruce, who introduced them to a variety of local Bush Tucker. Through tasting and storytelling, Uncle Bruce shared the nutritional benefits and cultural significance of these traditional foods, giving children a deeper connection to Country and Indigenous knowledge.

Flags and Finger Paint at Imagine Childcare and Kindergarten Cranbourne

At Imagine Childcare and Kindergarten Cranbourne, children expressed cultural pride by creating the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island flags using paint and their hands. This sensory-rich experience opened conversations about the meaning behind the flags and the importance of identity and unity.

Painting with Nature – Imagine Childcare and Preschool Ballina

Children at Imagine Childcare and Preschool Ballina explored Indigenous culture through natural-material painting. Using leaves, sticks, and other natural elements, they created beautiful artworks while learning about traditional art methods and the value of nature in Indigenous storytelling.

Symbols and Storytelling with Imagine Childcare and Kindergarten Oakleigh South

Educators at Imagine Childcare and Kindergarten Oakleigh South introduced children to traditional Aboriginal symbols and their meanings. Each child selected a symbol that resonated with them and created their own artwork and short story, deepening their understanding of Indigenous culture through personal expression.

Sticks, Drums and Culture at Imagine Childcare and Preschool Orange

Music filled the air at Imagine Childcare and Preschool Orange, where children used clapping sticks and drums to connect with the rhythms and stories of Indigenous culture. Through music, they explored the rich history and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in a fun and engaging way.

Wisdom from Uncle Allen at Imagine Childcare and Kindergarten Southport

A highlight at Imagine Childcare and Kindergarten Southport was another wonderful visit from Uncle Allen. He spoke with the children about how animals live in the bush and shared stories from his cultural experiences. Uncle Allen introduced the meanings behind the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags, allowing the children to proudly create their own versions while enjoying the sound of Uncle Allen’s didgeridoo.

Sensory Discovery with Imagine Childcare and Kindergarten West End

At Imagine Childcare and Kindergarten West End, Educators created a reconciliation-themed sensory tray filled with earthy materials. As children ran their hands through the tray, they were invited to reflect and engage in conversations about the land, its Traditional Custodians, and what it means to care for Country.

Reconciliation Week is more than just a week on the calendar, it’s part of our ongoing journey at Imagine Childcare to foster cultural awareness, promote inclusivity, and empower the next generation to walk together in unity and respect.

We are incredibly proud of our Educators, children, and families for embracing this important time with open hearts and curious minds. Together, we are planting the seeds of understanding that will help shape a kinder, more connected future.
